Meaning Of 'Perfume"?
The word comes from the Latin, meaning 'a sweetsmelling fluid containing the essence of flowers and other substances'. But perfume has its origins in ancient Roman ritual. In the temples of Rome, crushed flowers, leaves, wood shavings, spices and aromatic resins were thrown onto burning coals as offerings to the gods. Perfume is the strongest stuff and not that commonly sold. You are likely to be offered eau-de-parfum(EDP) or eau-de-toilet (EDT) of which eau-de-parfum is the stronger and the more suitable for gifting. Sprays, colognes, and eau-de-toilet are lighter fare, best for people who don't mind touching up their fragrance often and also suitable for younger people.
